Iranian pupils participating in the sixteenth World Biology Olympiad in China managed to win three silver and one bronze medals. In the olympiad, which started on July 10, more than 200 students from 50 countries competed in beijing, capital of China. According to the results declared, Dorna Motavalli, Mehrnoush Alborzi, Ali Anousheh won silver and Ahmad Shahabuddin Parizi received bronze medals. The seventeenth World Biology Olympiad is scheduled to be held next year in Argentina.
We are about to depart to Beijing to participate in the 16th International Biology Olympiad. It seems that this will be the biggest IBO ever held. China is a great country with a great people. May be the Chinese IBO will the Greatest too, as Chinese team often have got the best results in IBOs, where it was not IBO host. The IBO competition is taken quite serious by some countries, which find IBO a convenient place for competition, while others just take the advantage the assemblage of biologists and biology students brought together from all around the world.
Just 10 days before the 16th IBO, I have realized that the number of IBO members have reached to 54. Afghanistan and Pakistan, 2 neighbor countries will participate, while Persian speaking Tajikistan, which is an old member, is going to participate once again, after several years of absence. That means probably we will have 3 Persian Countries in 16th IBO: Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

The International Biology Olympiad (IBO), is a competition of mind and  an annual event for the world's best biology students at secondary school. The aims of the IBO are to promote a career in science for talented students and to stress the importance of biology in our current society. The IBO is also a celebration of international relationships amongst our youth and stimulates contact between students and teachers from many countries in a friendly environment. The IBO2005's official languages are English and Russian. To provide equal opportunities for all participants, the tests will be translated prior to the testing days. This will be done by each country's own team leaders and jurors.

IBO 2005
I have been under pressure to update this page too, as many people who visit "Biology Olympiads"  send questions to me to be answered. Although I have replayed to many of them, but, I think that the easiest choice is to activate this forgotten blog. There are some news in Iran. Now we have made our Biology team, comprising 4 competitors (2 boys+2 girls). They are prepared to participate in the IBO 2005 in Beijing. I am still in darkness how many countries will participate, but for sure the number of teams will be maximum. China is a different IBO organizer, as most of Gold medalist often have been Chinese competitors. See IBO 2005 webpage>>

More than 20,000 Iranian students from all over the country will participate in a competition for enter the second round of Iranian Biology Olympiad tomorrow morning. The competition will be started at 09:00 am in all cities, towns and many villages across the country. I think the competition is going to be a little bit exhausted, as only high ranking students have been eligible to participate. This will be a contest for gifted students of Iran.
Dr. Jan Stoklasa the main author of the first International Biology Olympiad passed away. He was one of dedicated persons working with IBO. Let's commemorate him. We have not forgotten his kind smile he often carried.
